For weeks The Vampire Diaries fandom have been waiting eagerly for Julie Plec’s new drama spin off series The Originals, a show centered around our favorite and hated original vampires, Elijah, Rebekah, and their hybrid (half vampire, half werewolf) brother Klaus. Some fans were excited to see the Mikaelson clan have their own series, while others like me were worried their favorite villain(s) would be leaving Mystic Falls for good.
The Originals is an episode of The Vampire Diaries fourth season, it wasn’t exactly a pilot episode for the new series either, but more of a back door or call it a sneak peak of the show if CW picks up the series. With the hype from the actors, media, and the amazing promo, it seemed like a sure thing. However the ratings were down 31% from last week’s The Vampire Diaries episode, but clearly that didn’t stop the network. Within less than 24 hours after the episode aired, CW picked up The Originals for a season of 13 episodes and if that goes well, will be made into a full 22-episode season. So what was so good about the show?
Katherine (Nina Dobrev) warns Klaus (Joseph Morgan) a witch in his hometown is out to get him, and Klaus being how he is, simply couldn’t let that happen. Once Klaus arrives to see his old buddy Marcel, (Charles Michael Davis) he has changed everything Klaus and his family created. More tourist visit making it easier to hunt, witches fear Marcel because of his death penalties for using magic, and most of all, Marcel has the power and praise Klaus wishes he has and wants.
The Originals is nothing like The Vampire Diaries. It’s darker, edgier, more violent, and not centered around a love triangle, but it definitely has its drama. In The Vampire Diaries world, vampires can not create their own flesh and blood, but somehow the viewers have seem to forget one little mishap. Klaus is also part werewolf, and his one nightstand with Haley (Phoebe Tonkin) lead to a bun in the oven. We all know how talented, sneaky, and creative Julie Plec is, but this is something no one saw coming. I was shocked, speechless, and amazed I didn’t see it coming.
I don’t like Klaus, even though he’s one of my favorite villains I love to hate, but that all changed when Marcel said New Orleans was his town and he was the king. For the first time in The Vampire Diaries series, I was rooting for Klaus. I wanted him to be king, and so did Klaus. Klaus wants to take back what was once his and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) believes he can with the help and power of family. Nothing has never stopped or getting in the way of the Mikaelson siblings, but this surely won’t be an easy task, as Marcel did learn from the master of evil and genus plans.
The Originals also stars Claire Holt, Leah Pipes, Daniella Pineda, and Danielle Campbell.
