The June wedding is happening, y’all, and it goes out with a bang… literally. What’s a Mystic Falls wedding without some drama and tension? Everyone’s worried about Katherine’s next move now that they know she’s in charge of hell. So, they decide to lure her in with Stefan and Caroline’s wedding since they believe she’ll refuse to let him marry anyone else. I have to be honest, it bothered me a bit that Stefan and Caroline had a shotgun wedding (albeit it was still beautiful) that had the tension of Katherine possibly showing up looming over it, and she never even showed! That doesn’t mean she didn’t make her presence known, though.
Here are some of the highlights from the episode…
Brotherly Pep Talk
Damon: “Look what happened to Enzo is gonna haunt you and her for the rest of your lives. But the you standing with me right now, the you that’s gonna marry Caroline Forbes tomorrow, the you that I have known for almost 200 years… You didn’t do it. Evil, nasty, Ripper Stefan did it. And you are not him. You hear me?”
A Toast and Something Borrowed
Damon: “To a Mystic Falls mom who started out by hating me, and became one of my closest friends. She was strong. She was loving. And not only did she protect this town, but she raised an incredible daughter that I now get to call family. To Liz Forbes. Gone but never forgotten.”
It was also in this moment that Damon gave Caroline her “something borrowed,” Elena’s necklace that Damon had given her and then Caroline had given back to him to try to flip his humanity back on.
Caroline: “I hate that she’s not here. And Bonnie’s not coming. My Girls can’t be there. Elena won’t be there.”
Damon: “I just wanted you to know that Elena would be with you tomorrow.”
Enzo: “A little church, I remember in the French country side. It’s in the middle of a lavender field. I always thought it would be the perfect place to marry you. And after our wedding, we’d dance. And tell you how much I love you. And tell you the absolute truth, which is how I’m the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”
It was also in this scene that Enzo convinced Bonnie to go to her best friend’s wedding, and that the Stefan who killed him isn’t who Stefan really is.
Ugh! I love these two so much! They deserve their happy ending… in one way or another.
Stefan: “I hope I get to see you have this one day with Elena. A wedding, a human life, all of it.”
Damon: “I want you to be there, too, brother. ‘Cause I’m gonna need a best man. Hopefully your hero hair hasn’t fallen out by then.”
Bonnie Shows Up
Caroline: “You girls will go in front of mommy, and then mommy will just walk herself down the aisle, and it will all be fine.”
Bonnie: “Or I could walk with you.”
Caroline: “Oh my God. You’re here.”
Bonnie: “I have a selfish reason. I want to be a part of your happiness.”
The I Do’s
Damon: “Do you, Stefan take this lovely woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
Stefan: “I do.”
Damon: “And do you, Caroline, take this man to be your lawfully wedding husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?”
Caroline: “I do.”
Stefan: “Caroline, you have been my friend, my conscience, my sounding board. You saw light in me when all I saw was darkness. You saved me from despair. You told me once that I would fall madly in love without realizing it. And that’s what happened. Day by day, bit by bit, year by year. With you.”
Caroline: “I remember saying that to you. We were dancing at my prom. It’s funny the things we remember out of all the years that go by. I remember how you told me that when I was ready for you, you would be ready for me. I’m ready now. I think a part of me has been ready for this day since the moment I first saw you, the new mystery guy in the hallway at school. I will always remember this moment. A hundred years from now, I will remember this moment for the both of us.”
I just thought this moment was cool. Bonnie was dancing with Damon at the reception, they share a sweet moment, he spins her and she’s dancing with Enzo, then back to Damon.
Live your life, Bonnie Bennett
Enzo: “Look, I know that you think we’ll be parted forever if you let go of me now, but I believe the opposite. I believe we’ll be together again. When I see you again, there’ll be only peace. And no one will ever part us. Live your life, Bonnie Bennett. All of it. Promise me.”
Bonnie: “I promise. I love you.”
Enzo: “I love you.”
As I stated earlier, Katherine made sure to make her presence known at the wedding. She may not have ruing the wedding itself, but the reception is a whole different story. She enlisted Matt’s mom to do her dirty work and blow up the manor the wedding was held at. Thankfully, the reception was outside and most the guests were outside. Unfortunately, Bonnie and Caroline’s girls got trapped in the flames inside. Bonnie saw Enzo and she was worried that she couldn’t get them out, but Enzo encouraged her to use her magic with the help of the girls. After his beautiful words, Bonnie manages to walk the girls out and into Caroline’s arms. It didn’t come without consequence, though, as the episode left us wondering if Bonnie lives or not as Vicki Donovan rings the Maxwell Bell to release hellfire on all of Mystic Falls. Apparently, Katherine has made some minions out of the Donovan women while they were in hell together.
