What’s the ultimate sacrifice you would make in order to protect the people you care most for? Would you trade your life for theirs? Would you make a literal deal with the devil? That’s pretty much what it came down to in the 6th episode of the final season of The Vampire Diaries. After Alaric and Caroline’s (technically Jo’s) girls were abducted by Seline in the previous episode, everyone is on a frantic search to find them and are willing to go to whatever extremes to save them from whatever evil plan Seline has. Well, everyone except Bonnie and Enzo because Sybil managed to sneak back into Enzo’s mind and torture him again. Ugh, these evil sirens.
Let’s take a look at some of the best and shocking moments.
Alaric’s threat to Seline
Seline: Your girls are very special, Ric. You’ve always known that. Special girls have special needs. The less you know, the better. Just know that I am saving them from a lifetime of pain.
Alaric: You’re right. The less I know, the better. But I’ll tell you. I could give a dam about your plans because they’re never gonna happen. I’m gonna find you… and I’m gonna kill you. No discussions, no last minute please for my sympathy. You have been in my home with me. And somehow, in all your scheming, you’ve missed just how far I’m willing to go to protect my children. I’m not coming for you. I’m coming for them. But the longer you run, the more I’m gonna hurt you.
Caroline calling off the engagement to Stefan until her girls are found
Caroline: Let me be perfectly clear, Stefan. If Damon gets in between me and my girls, I am going to kill him.
She wanted Stefan to stay out of going with them to find the girls because she knew he would get between her and Damon if it came down to it.
Enzo coming to after Sybil nearly killed him
After Enzo and Bonnie spent a nice morning in bed, Sybil managed to get in Enzo’s head again. This time she was literally torturing him to death. The only good thing that came out of it was that Stefan was able to get into his mind find out where Sybil, Seline, Damon, and the girls were. It also provided a nice moment between Bonnie and Enzo.
Alaric threatening to take the girls away from Caroline
Alaric: Look, they shouldn’t be living this life. You know, when we get them back, I’m taking them away. As far away from all of you as possible. Darkness follows vampires everywhere you go. That’s what you attract.
Seline using the girls to call on Caid so she can offer them to him as a trade for her and Sybil
I knew that nothing good would come of kidnapping those girls. Turns out, since the girls are siphons, she was planning to use them in a trade for her and Sybil as servants for Caid.
“Bonnie Bennett, to me, you’re the whole damn world.”
The above quote is all that needs to be said.
Caroline giving up the girls
Alaric: Caroline, I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to protect my own children.
Caroline: Yes, you do. Because you were right about something else. Right now, wherever I go, darkness follows me. So you need to take them. Take them someplace safe until this is all over. Take them away from me.
Stefan: Our day is tomorrow. It’s my last day.
Caroline: No. What? Why?
Stefan: Because my one condition was that I get to spend my last 24 hours of freedom… with you.
Remember what I said about ultimate sacrifices? Stefan made it. Instead of the girls being offered to Caid, Sybil made a deal to offer up Damon and Stefan, and they agreed to it. So, Caroline and Alaric get the girls back, but Stefan has to serve Caid for the rest of eternity, which means… no June wedding. 🙁
Sybil cutting Seline out of her deal
Seline: You cut me out of the agreement? How could you do that to me?
Seline was trying to make a deal with Caid in order to get her and Sybil out of servitude, but Sybil had other plans with her own deal. She cut Seline out because she left her in hell for centuries while she was out living a normal life.
Alaric and Matt killing Damon
In a shocking cliffhanger (one I’m glad wasn’t left for the fall finale), Matt and Alaric cornered Damon and kill him. Or so it seems at least. First, Alaric distracts him, then Matt shoots him in the back (with what I’m assuming was wooden bullets). Damon turned around to see Matt and Alaric shoots him again. Damon falls to the ground and Alaric stabs him with a dagger. The episode ends with Damon’s face turning gray and veiny.
