Arrow S4 – Review

The Emerald Archer was back this season with the Canary, Spartan, Speedy, and the Oracle (aka Felicity). After the horrific season 3 finale, I was praying to the DC gods that this season would outshine the past seasons. S1 was good, S2 was amazing, S3 was decent, S4 needed to get back on track. I was especially excited for this season because my boyfriend was going to join me in this Arrowverse, however, I think it’s safe to say, we were both pretty disappointed.

Synopsis: Oliver Queen and his team must defeat Damien Darhk; a man full of dark, mystical powers and a member of H.I.V.E. This season, the team struggles immensely to work together after secrets are revealed, trust is broken, and loved ones are lost. In the end, it is up to Team Arrow to protect their city from being taken over by Darhk-ness.

This dude, is as dark as they get! He is a former member of the League of Assassins, Member of H.I.V.E., and obtains magic. Let’s list a few:

  • He has superhuman strength

  • He’s telekinetic

  • He can teleport

  • He can suck the life out of you with the touch of his fingers

  • He has accelerated healing

  • And he’s basically immortal

With Darhk having all of these abilities, one must think, “how on Earth can Arrow, a mere mortal (with excellent archery skills), beat him?” Somehow he does, but it still isn’t clear as to how this actually happened. It just, did.

Arrow S4 Likes

  • I love the new Arrow lair! It’s modern with advanced technology and looks sweet!

  • I really enjoyed Kurt! Welcome to the club! His character was fun to watch.

  • The new arrow suit was awesome!

  • There were some epic fight scenes.

  • Diggle & his brother vs Diggle & Oliver; this was something I enjoyed this season; Diggle uncertain who to trust in some rather unfortunate predicaments and not knowing whether to listen to his gut instinct or not.

  • Constantine was badass! They need to keep him.

  • The romance between Captain Lance and Donna Smoak. Cute!

  • Damien’s power. Crazy!

  • The crossovers with The Flash, duh.

  • Some unpredictable turns.

  • This season just draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagged so much. It took forever to get to the point!

  • There were too many plot holes, too many.

  • Because of these plot holes, this season wasn’t cohesive.

  • The villain is defeated in an anti-climactic way.

  • The backstory…Jesus Christ…draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagged.

  • I used to LOVE Olicity, now I’m just annoyed. Felicity pissed me off quite a bit this season.

  • Malcolm, as always.

  • Canary and her terrible call.

  • I feel so bad for Captain Lance! Aye! Pobresito (poor guy)!

  • Oliver Queen as Mayor…and then not Mayor…and oh wait! He’s Mayor again! MAKE UP YOUR MIND!

  • The season finale was weak. WEAK!

  • The lack of…everything in general.

  • I think we’ll be introduced to more likable characters.

  • I think we’ll see more of Oliver Queen and less Green Arrow.

  • I feel this new season’s story will remain stagnant and dull.

  • I bet there will be more Olicity drama and BS.

Overall, this was another forgettable season. I feel they should dedicate an ENTIRE episode SOLELY for the backstory because that got old in season 1. I don’t feel like the seasons have gotten any better, unlike some other competing shows. I’m really hoping this new season improves on the storytelling and writing because I’m starting to lose faith in The Arrow.
